The importance of radio in the promotion of British new artists/bands (Case Study)

I currently participate in work experience with the BBC, while working here I found out about BBC Norfolk Introducing, a program between 7-8pm every Friday evening broadcast on BBC Norfolk 95.1 FM. BBC Norfolk Introducing was set up to get bands around the local area promoted and heard about. Bands/artists send their tracks into the BBC, a few will be picked and played on the show. If they are really good or get a lot of positive feedback, it can even be played on Huw Stephens show on Radio 1. Ed Sheeran who has become very popular first sent his EP's to the BBC Voices studio, and now he has number 1 singles.

The band I have chosen, 'National Image' appeared on the Norfolk Introducing Programme in March 2011.
BBC Introducing is run all over the country and bands/artists lucky enough can be played on Radio 1 eventually. Franko Fraize from Thetford, Norfolk is an example of this, his song 'Watch How I'm Moving' got played on Radio 1 for a week from the 23rd January 2012.
