Todorov's theory is 5 stages to the narrative theory, they are:
- Equilibrium - a period in time where everything is steady
- Disequilibrium - where the circumstances change and the story becomes unsettled, where a problem starts to arise or becomes an even bigger problem (maybe a confrontation)
- Recognition - the circumstances change again but for the better, as the protagonists start to find and make peace after bad has happened
- Reparation - the reparation is where the circumstances start to resolve themselves
- New Equilibrium - this is where all the problems are sorted and the character’s are back to normal, generally concluding in a happy ending
